Reality Sucks, Sleep Suffers
When you start with very little cash and only small loans for funding all you have is your time.
That becomes your currency, the lifeblood of the organization.
Zach, Steve, and I worked for free for a few years, and then in year 3 we started paying ourselves about $500 every two weeks.
For about 6 days a week, I operated on 4 to 6 hours of sleep and would crash till late mornings on Sunday, only to get up and head into the office for another 8-12 hour day prepping for the week.
Almost 7 days a week consisted of 16-18 hours in the office and on the road for 5 years straight.
We attended conferences at night and dropped off marketing materials during the day.
We would do the work late nights and early mornings when we weren’t out trying to sell what we did.
That level of intensity eventually burned me out after 5 years.
Yet, so many people don’t make it through those years because of the sheer amount of grit and faith you need to be successful.
Do you really need to put that much effort in? Get realistic on the amount of time your startup will demand.
ARE YOU REALLY WILLING TO PUT IN THE TIME REQUIRED TO MAKE YOURSELF A SUCCESS????
ARE YOU GOING TO BE SMART ENOUGH TO HIRE COACHES THAT WILL GUIDE YOU IN THE PROCESS, AND HELP YOU SAVE TIME AND YEARS OF PAIN TO AVOID THE DRIFTS, PITFALLS, AND LANDMINES??????
I CHALLENGE YOU IN TWO AREAS IF YOU WANT TO SUCCEED:
1) Be Willing to Work Insane Hours for several years
2) Be willing to let go of your Ego and find Teachers, Mentors, Coaches in your life to help you along the way.
Don't waste money and time on something you don't understand, paying for consulting will yield dividends in the long run.
